What is a Blog?

A blog (a contraction of the term 'web log') is a web site that acts as an online personal journal or diary. It is usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of descriptions of events, commentary, or other material such as video or graphics, with entries commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order, meaning that the freshest information is at the top. Blogs are an easy way of publishing content online due to their easy content management systems. The term 'blog' can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Originally, blogs were known primarily as places for people to write about their day-to-day activities. Although many still function as online diaries, many blogs today provide commentary or news on a particular subject, with links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.

Today, millions of people, some of whom have no real technical ability, write on their blogs. To meet this demand, many useful tools have been created that will allow anyone, even people with very little knowledge of computers, to have their own blog. Some of these people may write about every minute detail of their day, whilst others write instead about a hobby or interest of theirs. One of the major attractions of blogging is its ability to reach a global audience with so very little effort, along our voice to be heard by hundreds or even thousands of people each and every day.
